Definition : Bar is licensed place where selling all kinds of alcoholic drinks and serve to the guest with charge according to policy. It usually found in hotels, cruise, resorts, casinos, clubs and other part of cities. A bar is one part of the Food & Beverage department for revenue generating area in hotels.
Bar mainly divided into three parts and each part has its own functions :
1. Dispense Bar : It is also known as 'Restaurant Bar' because generally attached with a restaurant. and serving alcoholic beverages according to requirement or guest's order during their meal time. The stock may be replenish from the central bar or the cellar. Normally serve drink as accompaniment or digestives.
Dispense bar is normally a temporary bar where kept and serve alcoholic drink according to the guest's order for function.
2. Mini Bar : It is not a bar, it is a small refrigerator which keep in guest room in hotel. It have little range of alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and water according to hotel policy. This items may be chargeable or not also accordingly to hotel policy. This bar often checks just after guest's check out for guest account settlement.
3. Lounge Bar : Lounge meant an area for relaxing. This place normally located near the reception area. Lounge bar have special sitting arrangement like sofas and other. The drinks may be collected from the central bar of organisation. Lounge bar is often made in airports, luxury hotels, ships, casinos, and club etc.
4. Pub : Pub word derived from 'Public House' which licensed to sell alcoholic beverages. It have free entry for every guest but this place is age restricted. It have light music and low light with alcoholic drink and enjoy this atmosphere.
5. Discotheque Bar : It have minimum charge for entry called cover charge. It have separate entry rule according to bar to bar. It have high light and music. It have high alcoholic liqueur compare than Pub. It may be more than one dancing floor depending on bar budget.
6. Central Bar : Central bar also known as Main Bar. It is heart of alcoholic beverage after cellar. It have huge stock of drinks and supply to subsidiary bar in organisation.
7. Library Bar : Library is new concept in bar industry in which you go library bar with groups setting. The walls are lined with shelves which contain books. You give order for beverage, take our selected book and read it and enjoy drink.
8. Banquet Bar : It is a temporary bar set-up in banquets. This service for specific time period during function. The type and quantity of drink to be serve are predetermined at booking of function. The banquet bar collected their stock form main bar or cellar as required.
9. Night Club : It is operate late night according to policy. It charge flat fee for entry in club. Night club serve music, disco, DJ, live concert as comedy, music, and more with alcoholic beverage and snakes. Night club have their special dress codes for entry. Exclusive night club make own pre-book guest list and not give entry to other person.
10. Smoking Bar : It is also known as Cigar Bar. It is normally a bar which licensed indoor place for smoking and selling tobacco and consume by guest. Sometime smoking place separated from bar or common place for smoking and drinking.
11. Cocktail Bar : The cocktails bar serve all kind of cocktails by bartenders. All cocktails bar specially for cocktails but serve all kind of alcoholic drinks. It may be found in hotels, ships, cruises, casinos, airports etc.
12. Public Bar : It is a room where a furniture is plan and simple and drinks are sell cheaper than the pub's other bar in British Pub. It is normally use as budget bar.
13. Theme Bar : Theme bar work as theme restaurant. It is set-up according theme or idea which decided before set-up a bar. Sometimes normally bar also is set-up a theme on guest order and event parties. Example of theme bar - Irish bar, Sport bar, and Cocktail bar etc.
14. Sport Bar : It have many large screen television to watch live sport event by the guest. The guest enjoy sport event with drinks and snakes. Sometimes this types of bar charge flat fee for entry. It is attract to sport person and fans to watch match with luxurious service.
15. Irish Pub : It is Irish theme base bar which serve mostly Irish alcoholic beverage and food. It play Irish music and sport. The oldest pub held be Sean's Bar in Athlone at Ireland. Irish music not found in all Irish pub but It held live Irish music concert on weekly basis.
16. Club Bar : It is club which allow entry to only own members. Club bar charge flat fee to join as member for one time or fixed time period according to club policy. After join as member, It sell all drinks at less price with service according to club policy. One person has not ownership of entire club. Among all club member are selected a community to run club.
17. Wine Bar : It is new concept to sell wine and hybrid between wine shop and wine bar. Sometime wine bar associated with specific wine retailer for specific counter for marketing and selling. Wine bar are given a free sample of wine for tasting before purchasing. It Wine bar is sells only all type of wines, mostly sell expensive wines. It has a wide collection of wines.
18. Non-alcoholic Bar : It is also known as Alcohol-free bar and Dry Bar. It is not serve alcoholic beverage and not establish as separate business, just as at a wedding or event. It serve non-alcoholic drinks as mocktails, alcohol-free beer or low alcoholic beer, alcohol free wine, soft drinks, juice and water. Various foods may be served.

2. Back Bar : It is back area of bar counter where bartenders are stand and work here. The back bar also consider display rack as cabinets where holds all kinds of liquors and alcoholic beverages which enhances the appearance of the bar. The back bar lined with mirror for reflection of the bottles stored in rack. The design of back bar must be functional and very pleasant to look from top to bottom. Back bar is center attraction of any bar.
3. Under Bar : It is under area of front bar counter of the bartender's side. It should be designed keeping in mind work flow of bartenders will be facing the guests while preparing their drinks. The under bar may be divided into many work stations according to the length of the counter and the volume of bar business revenue. Each stations will have its own supply like liquor, ice, glasses, sink, blender, garnishes etc. Busy bar will have automatic dispensing fountain in under bar side.
